Oil storage Regulations Definition: Secondary Containment, also often refered to as a bunded fuel storage tank, under the Oil Storage Regulations, an oil storage tank which qualifies should be contained within a secondary containment system totalling no less than 110% of the storage tanks full capacity, a bunded oil tank. Storage of containers (not more than 60 gallons each) shall not exceed 1,100 gallons in any one pile or area. Piles or groups of containers shall be separated by a 5-foot clearance. Piles or groups of containers shall not be nearer than 20 feet to a building. Oil-filled electrical, operating, or manufacturing equipment is not a bulk storage container.” Oil-filled equipment may also be subject to the SPCC regulation and should be included with the bulk storage container capacity when determining the facility’s overall aggregate oil storage capacity. These Regulations require a person having custody or control of oil to carry out certain works and take certain precautions and other steps for preventing pollution of any waters which are controlled waters for the purposes of Part III of the Water Resources Act 1991. You must also follow these rules if you’ve got an oil storage container with a capacity of 3,501 litres or more at a home, including barges and houseboats. Storage containers include: oil drums (a) Storage units. Used oil burners may not store used oil in units other than tanks, containers, or units subject to regulation under parts 264 or 265 of this chapter. (b) Condition of units.
