Why are Incoterms important in international trade or exports? The importance of Incoterms in international trade and exports cannot be overemphasised. The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris oversees and administers Incoterms, and they are adhered to by the major trading nations of the world. The ICC first published this set of international rules in 1936 as “INCOTERMS 1936”. Incoterms are amended every 10 years and the most recent issue is “Incoterms 2010”. The most important part of the Incoterms® rules is that they really adapt to the parties’ needs. The moment they stop adapting, they will stop becoming useful…international trade does not have the luxury to have terms that are out of date.
